This application note describes a method for the preparative purification of Ibuprofen and its analogs using the Prominence™ UFPLC designed to improve the efficiency of your workflow.
Drug synthesis laboratories are processing a large number of samples on a daily basis and it is essential to develop the efficient workflow that reduces time and reagent usage. Current conventional workflows using preparative liquid chromatography (LC) are very labor-intensive and fraction yields contain significant amounts of water, leading to long drying times and possibly poor purity.
To improve the efficiency of your workflow, Shimadzu introduced the Prominence™ Ultra Fast Preparative and Purification Liquid Chromatograph (UFPLC). It is an automated system containing various trapping columns which facilitates 1) recovery of target compounds, 2) removal of hard-to-volatile solvent and 3) high-purity powderization of fractions.
In this application news, we demonstrated the preparative purification of Ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs), and its analogs using the Prominence™ UFPLC. The drying times of the samples collected from UFPLC and preparative LC were compared; drying of samples from UFPLC was approximately 9 times faster. Furthermore, with the removal of nonvolatile salts and buffers in UFPLC, pure ibuprofen crystals were recovered.
