This summary accompanies a recent event produced by Separation Science in collaboration with Biotage.
Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) testing has evolved rapidly in the past decade due to the severe health risks related to human exposure. As we expand our understanding of the prevalence of these toxic compounds, analytical laboratories must develop workflows to handle more challenging matrices. This presentation demonstrates a homogenization, extraction, and concentration workflow that provides exceptional precision, accuracy, and detection limits for PFAS in fish tissue samples. In addition, we discuss how to overcome some of the challenges associated with PFAS extraction and determination by isotope dilution or extracted internal standard quantification. Through this collaborative effort, we are thrilled to introduce a new simplified and automated sample preparation workflow applicable to testing for PFAS in solid samples.
Topics covered in this summary include:
- How to simplify your lab's sample preparation workflows by eliminating manual transfer steps when processing samples for PFAS analysis.
- Tips for optimizing sample preparation and analytical performance to make sample analysis easier, more accurate, and more reliable.
Meet the Experts
Lauren Dreyling
Chemist at the Indiana Department of Health
Lauren has worked for the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) in a variety of roles for over nine years. Her most recent role is in the Chemical Threat/Opioid Surveillance lab working for the past five years on a variety of methods for LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and LC-ICP-MS. She also takes an active role in method development for LC-MS/MS, LC-QTOF, and GC-MS/MS for a variety of matrices; both clinical and environmental. Lauren has been at the head of all PFAS method development (537.1, 533, and 1633) for IDOH since 2020.
